Mag Chloride Application Day

  • Cedar Mesa Ranches Homeowners Assoc., Inc. P.O. Box 62 Mancos, Colorado 81328 United States (map)

As you may have noticed, the Road Committee has been out with the grader and water truck the last week or so fixing up our roads and ditches.  This is in preparation for our first dust control application of Mag Chlor on Monday, May 1st.  The application will begin at 8 a.m. and continue until approximately 10 a.m.  If you must travel in or out of our subdivision that morning, please adjust your schedule to make the trip outside of the 8 - 10 a.m. time frame.

We will hold traffic during the application process.  This is so the driver can concentrate on doing a good job of the application rather than dodging on-coming cars.

If you leave your drive and find yourself facing a large green, slow-moving truck spraying brown liquid, PLEASE tuck into a neighbor's driveway and let the truck proceed past you.

Driving on fresh mag makes a mess of your vehicle (magnesium chloride is corrosive) and should be washed off as soon as possible.  This is why we prefer to keep traffic off the roadway for about 10 minutes after the mag has been applied.  This allows it to sink into the road surface as much as possible.  Driving through freshly applied mag also tracks it out of the HOA, lessening the amount of dust control that stays on the road.

If you MUST drive on the road that morning, going SLOWLY will keep the mess to a minimum.  15 mph is as fast as you can go without throwing the mag all over your vehicle.

We will be treating the same segments of roadway that we treated last year - Road 35 from the entrance all the way to 35.6; K.3 down to J.6; J.7 to the bottom of the first sharp turn; and about half of J.8 and J.9.  This treatment will cost the HOA $16,305, so please help us make the best of it!

If you have family members who are drivers, or visitors, renters, or contractors, please be sure to pass this information along.  Notices will be put up at the entrance and mailboxes in the next few days as well so it stays on our minds until Monday.

The Road Committee appreciates your cooperation in this matter.  Thank you.
